Surgery can help: Pectus carnatum can be referred as a small pointy front chest. Surgery corrects the abnormal cartilage growth. Harrison at university california san francisco has offered a new non surgical approach. Talk with your doctor, obtain a second opinion and be comfortable with the decision. Your brother may also feel self conscious so support his decision.

Surgery or observe: Pectus carinatum develops due to issues with the cartilages connecting the ribs and sternum. Pectus carinatum is also called pigeon chest. Treatment is cosmetic because there is no compression of the lungs or heart. Risks include infection and bleeding, both relatively low occurring issues. If no surgery, then just observation.
