Trauma from a thoracentesis may cause bleeding that may be self limiting or may persist and rarely require intervention. The initial bleed may make the pleural fluid bloody transiently. If it is clearing, no intervention may be required. Judgement of the attending physician is the most important determinant of what needs to be done if anything.
