It can be hereditary: 4% of carcinoid tumors are hereditary. The most common inherited disorder involving carcinoids is men syndrome type i. Other neuroendocrine tumors are usually present in this syndrome, though. Familial carcinoids are more erratic in heritability. There is no formal test for suspected familial carcinoid. Symptoms of carcinoid syndrome include chronic flushing and diarrhea.
