Pain?: Depending on your medical history, this could be a lot of things. If there is pain and you are post menopausal, you could have gout. Other possible conditions include arthritis, diabetic charcot foot, infection (usually an open wound is associated with this), etc. There are many possibilities. If it continues to bother you, see your pcp for a referral to a specialist.

Ankle Swelling: A number of things can cause this such as infection or DVT which is a blood clot even without trauma. Check your temp and if high either go to er or your doctor asap.
