Normal variant: In some people, some of the collecting system for the kidney, called the renal pelvis (like a funnel to catch the urine the kidney makes) extends a bit from the kidney. This is called an "extra-renal pelvis".

Normal variance.: This is normal variance. The renal pelvis is what that collects urine from the kidney and connects the kidney to the ureter. In some people it's just a bigger size than normal. It is mentioned on ct study so that one does not think that this is from hydronephrosis where the ureter is obstructed and the kidney is dilated. Otherwise it has no clinical significance.
