Nope: Epsom salts may help to alleviate some of the swelling, but the reason for chronic venous insufficiency relates to faulty valves and reflux of blood backwards (instead of blood traveling towards the heart, it flows backwards towards the ankle and foot, the most dependent parts of our body). Venous insufficiency is best helped with compression stockings and seeing a vascular surgeon for advice.

Edema and epsom salt: The treatment for edema especially as a result of liver or heart failure is to treat the causes of the liver and heart failure. Epsom salt is essentially a topical method to alleviate some of the discomfort from the swelling but it does nothing for the source of the problem .
