Wrong condition: Statins are used to treat an elevated cholesterol level. If you have high blood pressure and high cholesterol you may need to be on a statin and a blood pressure lowering agent.

NO: Statins are not per sew for treating high blood pressure (hypertension) rather they are for treating high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia). And no they are not the only way to treatr hyperlipidemia, but they are the most effective medications for this. The proven most effective statin in the class (mg for mg) is Rosuvastatin (crestor).
