If what you have is a viral gastroenteritis, more commonly known as the stomach, flu, the best thing to do if you are actively vomiting is to stop food intake. But you will need to stay hydrated with fluids such as water, juice or electrolyte solutions such as gatorade. Once you are settled down from the vomiting slowly reintroduce soft bland foods like bread, toast, rice applesauce, and bananas.
