In some: It is of concern in some head and neck cancers; but needle biopsy is safely performed and is often standard first line approach in masses or nodules seen in most other body sites, including breast, thyroid, lung and lymph nodes.

Not all cancers: A few cancers, e.g. adenoidcystic carcinoma of salivary glands and mesothelioma are more susceptible to this phenomenon.
