Is my baby allergic to breast milk?

Specializes in Pediatrics
No: Infants seldom are allergic to breastmilk. That would require a true milk-protein allergy and, fortunately, those are rare. Symptoms are vomiting, diarrhea and either weight loss or poor weight gain. Your child needs 3 of these symptoms. The diagnosis is usually made by taking your child off all dairy products for 6 weeks, then reintroducing dairy to see how the baby responds.

SYMPTOMS: You can suspect your baby is allergic to breast milk if having symptoms of allergy like skin rashes and nasal congestion. And confirm it by stopping the brest feeding and see if symptoms go away
but breast milk allergy is rare as compared to allergy to cows milk
discuss your concerns if you have with the babys pediatrician.
