What are some signs of carpal tunnel in the hands and if there is a way to prevent carpal tunnel?

Carpal tunnel: Carpal tunnel syndrome is characterized by hand pain and recurrent numbness or "pins and needle" sensations in the thumb, index, middle finger and the lateral aspect of the ring finger. It may be triggered by repetitive use, like driving or keyboard typing. Certain conditions may predispose to its appearance. Wearing a wrist cock- up splint is very effective. Surgery reserved for severe cases.

Common issues are : Tingling numbness wrist pain loss of dexterity nocturnal or nighttime symptoms. In severe cases weakness and loss of thumb strength. There's definitely a gradient that one sees starting with just a case of night time tingling and going up to to severe loss of strength. http://www.handctr.com/carpal-tunnel-syndrome-q-a.html.

Numbness & tingling: Numbness, tingling, or burning sensations in the thumb, index and long finger are very common in carpal tunnel syndrome. Awakening from sleep and "shaking out the hands" to get relief is commonly reported by patients with carpal tunnel syndrome. Evaluation by a surgeon dedicated to surgery of the hand and upper extremity is appropriate if you have these symptoms.
