This is a : A progressive scoliosis with a hemivertebra present that needs surgical correction. The finding of a tethered cord places increased risk of neurologic injury with any spinal correction means that the tethered cord must also be addressed . This is a case which may need to involve both a neurosurgeon and an orthopaedic spine surgeon.

Usually congenital: The spinal cord normally is not fixed in the canal, mobile with standing and lying down. A tethered cord is held taut at the distal end, or some point in the spinal canal. In children, as growth occurs cord not able to move. Symptoms may includ, hairy patches, dimples, or fatty tumours on the lower back, foot and spinal deformities, weakness in the legs, low back pain, scoliosis and bladder problems.
