Yes and no..: Dad cannot pass it through the semen. However, if mom is not immune/ never had primary herpes virus infection, dad could pass the infection to mom through an open lesion (whether genital or oral), mom could get the infection, and then if mom has a primary infection with hsv that could pass to an unborn fetus. So it would have to go through mom, but it could happen.
