The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists states that the herpes simplex virus may be able to live on surfaces for up to a few hours outside of the body. However, if the skin is intact your child will not get the virus. Cleaning with Chlorine solution is always effective.

The herpes virus doesn't survive well on inanimate objects. Therefore, the simple act of washing one's hands tends to make any virus present non transmissible. The same common cleansers that are used to sanitize households for the COVID 19 SARS virus will work for herpes as well such as Clorox wipes..
