Not always: Most oral surgeons are happy to see you for a specific problem directly. I would add that it is always better and less expensive to have a plan - like a set of blueprints for a house - before tackling things piece-meal. Often, as a general dentist, we act as a quart-back - coordinating the treatment plan and putting everything in order so you can save $$$ and time.
