What do i have to do before and after lasik vision correction?

Lasik: Before lasik correction, you do not need to do anything special other than have the exams to be sure you are a candidate and to make sure they have all the information they need. Afterwards, you should be given antibiotic eye drops, steroid eye drops, and wetting eye drops. It is common to have dry eye after surgery for a few weeks due to irritation, so the wetting drops are very important.

Follow instructions: First, go to an experienced, reputable surgeon to be examined, educated and cleared for surgery, and then follow the instructions given to you. Preop, you'll be started on prescription drops one day before surgery, and instructed to perform eyelid scrubs to reduce the chance of infection. Postop, you will need to continue drops, rest, avoid getting water in the eyes, and do not rub your eyes.

Follow directions: Make sure you follow any instructions your eye surgeon has given you for before and after. This may include eyedrops, staying out of contact lenses, getting prescriptions filled, reading any materials or forms you were given, have ready any questions you may still have, and notify the surgeon if any changes in your eyes or health occur.

LASIK surgery: Prior to surgery, you will need an evaluation of an eye doctor and to be out of any contact lenses for 2-4 weeks or long (especially if in rigid lenses). After surgery, you need to use the eye drops as directed, avoid rubbing eyes and strenuous activities as the eyes heal.
