Most often smokers..: Dip stands for desquamative interstitial pneumonia. It was first described in 1956. Occurs most commonly in middle-aged adults who are cigarette smokers. It is a type of lung disease in which alveoli (tiny air exchange sacs in the lung) become filled with cells and patients experience shortness of breath. It is treated by smoking cessation and corticosteroids. Complete recovery is possible.
