A member asked:

Is emphysima and c.o.p.d the same lung disease or are they different?

Different: Emphysema is the loss of alveolar tissue or air sacs. COPD is disease of the airways often associated with infections. Smokers generally have a mixture of both disorders. Because they often occur in the same person there is confusion about the exact meaning of these terms.
