Could be but...: If you feel hot to the touch and feverish you might have an infection which needs treatment. Please check with your dentist/surgeon right away.

Of the lower jaw (with a feeling of swelling) can also result when the lower jaw nerve lying against the roots of the lower teeth has taken pressure during the removal of the teeth. Sometimes the swollen oral tissues themselves can cause numbness. Either way, since the surgery is so much more difficult in your 30's than in your teens, this is not unheard of just a week out.

Following surgery...: If it was an impacted wisdom tooth or a difficult extraction, then some swelling even a week later is not uncommon. The swelling should be going down each day. Numbness a week later is not common but may still be of no concern. These are questions that you should discuss with your surgeon who should be monitoring healing with follow up visits. Call your surgeon and ask!
