A member asked:

Can a person with sickle cell anemia control it by changing some of his or her daily habits?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

You can help: Painful events can be triggered by exposure to cold; you should avoid this as much as possible. Dehydration also can trigger these; drinking fluids regularly, especially when it's hot out can help. Avoid vigorous activity when it's hot, especially when you're not used to it. Also, be very compliant with all meds your doctor prescribes, including Folic Acid and antibiotics. Good luck!
