You check..: Serum ferritin and iron saturation. If either or both are too high, you are getting too much iron. Too much iron, without the disease hemochromatosis, will actually decrease your iron absorption. So it is very hard to do this by diet. It is a dangerous possibility with taking excess iron containing multiple vitamins. They should be hidden from children!
