Ice is best: Icing down a painful achilles tendon will decrease pain since it is a topical analgesic. Heat gives a more soothing relief at imes but it can increase the swelling often associated with tendonitis.

Ice or heat: The great debate has been this question. For first 48-72 hours ice is best. Then heat if ice didn't help. Need to rest it too and avoid activity until its gone.
