Family transmission : Research consistently supports the notion that anxiety disorders run in families. Children of anxious parents are 4 to 7 times more likely than children of non-anxious parents to develop an anxiety disorder. Combination of genetic and psychological vulnerabilities. Yes, but not alone. : Yes, but it's not enough. Most psychiatric disorders, including anxiety disorders, are the result of interaction between one's upbringing (which affects coping styles) & psychological stressors with one's particular genetic (inherited) vulnerabilities.
