Family transmission : Research consistently supports the notion that anxiety disorders run in families. Children of anxious parents are 4 to 7 times more likely than children of non-anxious parents to develop an anxiety disorder. Combination of genetic and psychological vulnerabilities. See one of the articles on my page that speaks to this (chapman et al 2012).

Yes, but not alone. : Yes, but it's not enough. Most psychiatric disorders, including anxiety disorders, are the result of interaction between one's upbringing (which affects coping styles) & psychological stressors with one's particular genetic (inherited) vulnerabilities.
