A member asked:

I was just wondering when can doctors first detect down syndrome?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: It can be suspected during prenatal screening with either blood test or diagnostic ultrasound. It can be confirmed by chromosomal analysis from fluid obtained from the womb by amniocentesis or cells taken by cvs. An observant physician can often tell during the infants first exam.
