A member asked:

I'm 5 months pregnant, doctors confirmed that i'm having down syndrome in my fetus , is there any problem after birth for my baby??

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Certainly: DS babies have a 1/3-1/4 risk of a heart defect many of which need immediate surgery to survive. If this is corrected they have a potential lifespan of 60+ yrs, risk of multiple medical problems & develop slowly. Most require supervision for life & seldom hold a job. Females are fertile while males are not.
