A member asked:

If someone has pcos what does the drug metorformin do for them?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Short answer: Pcos is associated with Insulin resistance. Meaning Insulin is not effective as it should be. So the body uses more of it. Excessive Insulin makes the body make more androgens. High androgen levels cause anovulation. Chronic anovulation causes pcos. Metformin makes Insulin work better. Less androgens, less anovulation, helps pcos. Also helps with weight loss. Weight contributes to pcos.
