Spine surgeon: A spine surgeon may be either a neurosurgeon or an orthopedic surgeon with fellowship training in spine available to both specialists. Generally, most orthopedic surgeons will refer patients to a spine specialist if they are not comfortable managing spine conditions. However, most orthopedists are capable of caring for neck problems nonsurgically (which works 80% of the time).
