Dr. Peter Tomasello answered

Specializes in Orthopedic Surgery

See below: In general neurosurgeons primarily operate on the brain they also do spine and peripheral nerve surgery. Orthopedic spine surgeons concentrate on the cervical thoracic lumbar and sacral spine. They treat various conditions including scoliosis , disc disease, herniations stenosis with associated radiculopathy, tumors , fractures neuromuscular conditions are just to name a few. I'm an orthopedic surgeon so i'm biased i would recommend an orthopedic spine surgeon good luck thank you.

Similar: Different backgrounds, but what really matters is how well trained and experienced a surgeon is. Meet with both and see how comfortable you feel with each.

Both are ok: Both neurosurgeons and fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeons treat spinal disorders. It is worth your time to learn about your surgeon before considering surgery. Hopefully, your primary care doctor can help to point you in the right direction. The most important thing to do is to make sure that the surgeon you choose has expertise in treating your problem.
