Can itp be fatal?

Can be, but rare: Most people w/ treated itp can expect to live a normal life span. Platelets help the blood clot, so a person w/ extremely low platelets (due to immune system attack in itp) can have fatal bleeding esp in the brain. However, this happens <1% of the time. Your doctor will monitor your platelets, and there are many treatments for itp such as Prednisone that can help maintain a good platelet count.

Can be: Agree with Dr. C. If left untreated low platelet count can be fatal, e.g., due to bleeding in brain. But ITP can generally be treated.
