A member asked:

Is itp one a psychosomatic disease?

Autoimmune disease: Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (itp) is an autoimmune disease. In this potentially life-threatening disorder self antibodies directed against platelets result in low levels of platelets in the blood. Platelets are necessary for effective blood clotting. People with itp can die from loss of blood after trauma of from a brain hemorrhage. Death is not a psychosomatic disease.

No, definitely not..: Itp is an autoimmune disorder where a person develops antibodies to antigens on the surface of their platelets, targeting them for destruction by their reticuloendothelial system. While some patients experience symptoms of the disorder only once and never experience recurrence, others can have persistence or frequent recurrence of symptoms. There is nothing psychosomatic about itp.
