Chylomicrons and remnants (bad) 6. Lp(a) one easy way to assess your total bad cholesterol is to calculate non-hdl cholesterol by subtracting HDL from total. Some studies say this is better than ldl. Ideal levels of this are less than 130 mg/dl.
