Flatus: Bacteria in the colon help digest the contents; if the food remains in the colon longer than usual, a stronger odor may result. Also, certain foods are rich in sulfur compounds (eggs, onions, broccoli, etc) which, when acted upon by bacteria can produce bad smelling wind. Sometimes, eating parsley or watercress or other chlorophyll-containing herbs can lessen the odor, as can charcoal capsules.
