May not be acne: Dry spots are usually not acne. A young person with dry spots can try some over-the-counter Hydrocortisone cream for a week, and then see his primary care doctor if the spots are not going away or gone. An older person has more chance of skin cancer, so should be sure to see a dermatologist if spots don't go away easily with Hydrocortisone for a week.
