My gyno says that getting an iud is really risky, he says i have greater chances of developing a pelvic infection and becoming sterile. is this true?

Get second opinion: Though their reputation for causing infection still exists from cases many decades ago, currently iuds are very safe. As long as a competent physician places the iud, the risk of infection and infertility is extremely low. Before an iud is placed, the doctor will usually check for stds, to make sure the patient doesn't already have an infection.
