It is a foreign body in the body and yes the introduction of it can cause an infecitons or make a current infection at time of placement worse. Yes x 2: It is possible to have an infection after an iud is placed. However, it is usually associated with just after the iud is placed. It is also possible and not uncommon for bleeding to occur for a couple of months after iud is first placed, especially with the copper iud.
