Diabetes & Wt Gain: Type 2 diabetes is a condition of Insulin resistance meaning your body makes Insulin but it does not work as well. As a result the body needs higher amount of Insulin to control your blood sugar. Unfortunately, Insulin also stimulates fat formation, epecially the unhealthy fat around your waist. The result is weight gain. High blood sugar also promotes the growth of fungus causing yellow nails.

Diabetes: The short answer is yes. Diabetes can cause fluid retention due to kidney function and add to weight. Yellow toenail may be a fungus in the nail which can be verified by podiatrist.
