Bad luck maybe: Unfortunately, there are some older adults that can develop asthma without having it previously. More often, however, this is usually a slightly inaccurate diagnosis and patients really have COPD related to smoking/smoke exposure. I would recommend seeing a lung doctor to make sure diagnosis is correct.
