What are some early indicators of a fever without a thermometer?

A few things: Is the patient hot to the touch, use lips on forehead to tell. Is the patient unusually thirsty? Are the face and neck more red or flushed than usual. If fever comes and goes, is there unusual sweating? These are just a few of the simple things to be aware of.
