Lump in palate: There are several possibilities the lump may be bone growth called a torus or it can be a cyst or sme infection or other problems i suggest you see your dentist to evaluate it.

Are they related?: Is the hard painless lump related to a sore throat? You could have a hard painless lump on the roof of your mouth which is completely normal. It might be there for many years and you did not notice it. It is called tori. Check with a dentist about the lump and check with a physician for sore throat. If these two conditions are related, your physician should tell.
