Cough: Patients of any age who have had cough for a week or more, especially when accompanied by a sore throat, should be examined by a doctor. Though the cause of your symptoms may be viral, and therefore ultimately resolve on their own, there is still a possibility that the cause may be bacterial. In this case, antibiotics may be needed to achieve full resoluation.
