Not really: Weight loss is achieved by increasing energy expenditure and decreasing energy intake, or a negative caloric balance. The combination of diet, exercise and/or restrictive surgery procedures all achieve this negative caloric balance. If you can't achieve the negative balance, the surgeries are great.
