Depression treatment: Alternative treatments for depression include exercise, eating a healthy diet, therapy, support groups, herbal supplements ( i.e. 5 htp, same and st john's wort) and journaling vitamins can also be helpful such as a b complex, vitamin d and omega 3. For severe depression a combination of therapy and medication work best.

Therapy+: Among the non-medication options, psychotherapy (cbt/ipt) has the best evidence supporting its effectiveness. There are many other options - sam-e, exercise, light therapy, certain omega-3 fatty acids, but studies supporting them are few and involved small number of patients.
