Surgery?: Best treatment option for permanent removal is surgery. You can drain it too, but they recur more. In the darker days of medicine, doctors would smash them with a blunt object. Ouch!

Surgery: A gangion will not go away, and may simulate a tumor on a tendon which could be locally invasive. Get is fixed by you local friendly orthopedic hand surgeon.
