A member asked:

Is it possible that a calcification in the knee be mistaken for osteosarcoma, or vice versa?

Calcification: Can be seen in the setting of osteosarcoma. This rare tumor causes the adjacent bone to repair itself as the tumor progresses. It should not be confused with calcification in the joint or menisci and MRI is an excellent tool for further evaluation in questionable cases.

Unlikely: The appearance of osteosarcoma is not that of a simple calcification and is not really at all likely to be confused with calcification.
