I go to bed at 8:30 pm and wake up at 8:30 am. how many hours is that and how many am i supposed to sleep each day?

12 hours: You are in bed for 12 hours. Without a sleep study you will not know how many hours of sleep you are getting. On average most people need 7.7 hours of sleep a night. Until you have a sleep study you don't know how efficient your sleep is. I am sure you get less than 12 hours of actual sleep. Consult with a sleep physician.
