Scalp fungus tx: What treatment to use for a scalp fungus depends on the fungus. If the fungal infection is tinea capitis (ringworm of the scalp) it requires oral antifungal pills as the fungus is inside the hair follicles and nothing put on the surface of the scalp will help. If it is a yeast, like tinea versicolor, then antifungal shampoo may be sufficient. If it is extensive, may need oral antifungals as well.
