Is there any known adverse effects for taking protein powder (whey, casein)? i usually drink one or two a day between meals, not as a meal replacement

Minimal: Whey protein isolates are generally very safe to ingest. There is a potential for some abdominal distress if you take too much at once, but this is rather rare. Assuming you have no other medical issues that would preclude you from processing protein, you should be just fine.
