Confusing as it is, a simple definition of T1DM is when you make none of your own insulin because the antibodies to the islet cells killed that production. TIDM is rarely diagnosed outside of childhood. The antibodies by themselves could have been a transient process. If you are still making some of your own insulin & it is not enough to keep you regulated T2DM is a better label.
