My daughters asd was 8mm at birth, shes now 4 yrs old and it is 3mm. she still has mild right side enlargement. why still enlarged? how long will it take to go back to normal? is this dangerous? will 3mm asd need closure to reduce enlargement?

Our response will be more accurate if you let us know the ASD type but I assume your daughter has ASD secundum. The defect has gotten smaller and it is 3 mm at this time so it won't cause much problem later on even it does not close completely. The mild right heart enlargement is only important if it has gotten worse compared with previous years. The defect will close completely @ 5 in some cases.
