Research has shown smokers to have reduced blood flow to the capillaries responsible for natural healing. Many surgeons will not do elective operations on smokers until they are nicotine free for 90 days. Your kidney may be healthy enough for the recipient, but you will need to ask the transplant team whether they would accept a smoker as an elective donor. After death it wouldn't be a problem.
